Intent and purpose of key qualifications

The area of key qualifications allows students to acquire additional skills in addition to their subject-related studies and to get to grips with interdisciplinary topics. These skills can, for example, help students to study more efficiently or be used to develop a more distinctive personal profile and thus facilitate later career entry or can enhance a student’s general education and ability for reflection beyond the horizons of their specific subject. Students may choose courses in the area of key qualifications according to their personal interests and requirements.

What counts towards key qualifications?

The number of credits that need to be earned in the area of key qualifications and whether there are any particular specifications regarding content are stipulated in the degree program and examination regulations for the major. Credits in the area of key qualifications can be earned in the following areas:

  • Special key qualifications modules/courses
  • Modules/courses in programs other than the student’s own
  • Language courses

In addition, excursions, internships, mentoring and tutoring activities as well as a period spent abroad for study purposes can be recognized as key qualifications (see also General Degree Program and Examination Regulations for the Bachelor and Master’s Degree Programs of the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.)

Key qualifications courses listed in the lecture directory can be found in UnivIS / Key qualifications.
