Curriculum Vitae

Born 1957 in Göttingen, he studied Theater and Media Studies, German Language and Literature as well as Modern History in Erlangen. He completed his doctoral degree in 1991 under the supervision of Theo Elm on the future scenarios of Arno Schmidt and Stanislaw Lem. He taught from 1991 to 2010 at the Department of German and Comparative Studies of FAU. Since 2011 he has been a lecturer at FAU’s Center for Applied Philosophy of Science and Key Qualifications (since 4/1/2017 the Center for Applied Philosophy of Science and Key Qualifications, ZiWiS; since 1/1/2023 ZIWIS). As a futurologist, he is working together with a large number of institutions and enterprises, including DHL, Telekom, VDE, the Deutsches Museum in Munich, the Adolf Grimme Institute and Imbus, but also with university research institutes and ministries. He has worked on many scenario studies as well as lectures on various future-related questions (e.g. for Sorbonne, Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, Deutsche Börse Group, Max Liebermann Haus = Stiftung Brandenburger Tor, Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts). His main interests are the future of media and the convergence of technologies. He writes for the science and culture columns for the following publications and media, amongst others: NZZ, NZ, Kursbuch, Kultur & Technik, Archiv – Magazin für Kommunikationsgeschichte, BR, ZDF.
